Syllabus
The goal of this course is to create a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement that provides middle school students with a foundation for success in high school, future studies, and careers. Students will explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers from a variety of aspects. All students will have the opportunity to receive training in current Technology related to various STEM occupations.The students will have an opportunity to research labor market information, learn job-seeking skills, and create documents required for employment. Students will use self-knowledge to explore and set realistic goals pertaining to their future.

Project Assignments...
There are usually 3 project assignments per week, with the remainder of the week given over to the completion of these assignments. Students are expected to complete all assignments within the time window (assigned – due) posted in Focus.
Any assignment not submitted for grading by the due date, normally by the end of that week, is late work. Late work which is never submitted will receive a grade of 0. Late Work that is submitted after the due date will be eligible to be made up for up to a passing mark. A passing mark is NOT GUARANTEED for LATE WORK. Any errors in the assignment will marked off from the PASSING MARK of 70 instead of the usual high mark of 100.
Late Work Due To Absences...
Work that is submitted late, usually the next week or even later, due to EXCUSED absences may be allotted extra time in accordance with posted school board policy.
Grades and Grading...
Extra Credit grades are both allowed and encouraged. Opportunities for EXTRA CREDIT WORK are offered throughout the six week period.
Extra credit work will be awarded as points added to the final average, and should raise the final grade somewhat.

Note: By school board policy, all students will be eligible to receive a passing mark for all work during the entire grading period, regardless of any (or no) initial mark. However, the student must submit makeup work before the final day of the grading period to receive credit.
Student Expectations
- Students are expected to be in their seat when the bell rings.
- Students are expected to take an active part in all class activities each day and turn in assignments promptly.
- Students are expected to use their time wisely each day ... and avoid internet surfing, gaming, cell phone usage, loudly visiting with others and loitering away from their assigned seat.
- Students are expected to deposit backpacks out of the aisles, remove hoodies, get rid of candy and/or gum, and be on task.
- Students are expected to be polite to others and avoid physical horseplay.
- Students are expected to talk quietly and help those closest by them.
- Students are expected to get permission prior to leaving the room with a hall pass.
- Students who have chosen not to participate in class activities will not have access to hall passes.
- Students are expected to get permission before submitting work, either online or to the printer.
- Students are expected to remember to sign out of their computer at the end of each session.
- Students are expected to keep their hands off other students...and other student's computers, peripherals and belongings.
- Students are expected to behave appropriately and in an orderly manner.
- Students who chronically misbehave should expect corrective actions, which may include parent notification, detention, counseling, office referrals, IHS, OCI, etc.
- Students would do well to remember the three strikes in baseball rule, for that rule will apply to misbehavior in class each day.

Attendance...
To receive credit or a final grade in a class, a student in kindergarten–grade 12 must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. A student who attends at least 75 percent but fewer than 90 percent of the days the class is offered, may receive credit or a final grade for the class if he or she completes a plan, approved by the principal, which allows the student to fulfill the instructional requirements for the class.
